A practical field guide · 7-minute read

Plan a POS system around the way your shop actually works.

A reliable counter is more than a screen and a printer. It is one connected journey: find the item, complete the sale, issue the right receipt, update stock and close the day. Plan that journey first, then choose the software and equipment.

For retail, grocery, fashion, mobile, restaurant and growing multi-counter businesses.

Quick self-check

How ready is your counter for a POS decision?

Tick what you already know. Your result is a planning prompt, not a product score—and it stays in your browser.

What can you answer today?

Your setup blueprint

Six decisions that prevent expensive guesswork.

Use this checklist to compare a setup against your day—not just against a feature list.

02

Choose the counter before the device.

List each checkout point, who uses it and whether it needs a fixed computer, touch screen or a mobile device. Confirm the operating system, available ports, network and backup plan before ordering hardware.

A device is only a fit when the software version and the exact model work together. Ask for a model-by-model check.

03

Keep essential equipment simple.

Start with what the workflow truly needs: a receipt printer, barcode scanner and cash drawer. Add a weighing scale, label printer, customer display or payment terminal only when your sales process calls for it.

“Connects to a computer” does not always mean “integrates with the billing software.” Confirm the exact model and what the connection does.

04

Check the local invoice and payment journey.

List your GST invoice requirements, payment methods such as UPI or card, and any systems that must exchange data. Ask the supplier to confirm the specific edition and integrations that apply to your business.

Requirements can depend on your business and setup. Get the relevant scope confirmed; do not assume a feature or certification from a product name.

05

Compare the cost of running it, not only buying it.

Ask for a written breakdown of software, extra counters, setup, training, support, renewals, payment charges and optional hardware. Also ask how you can export your product and sales data if your needs change.

Useful lens: Compare the cost per working counter over the period you expect to use it, including the small recurring items.

06

Run a “20-sale stress test” before you commit.

Use your own products and have two staff members try a normal rush: scan several items, apply a discount, correct a mistake, handle a return, print the receipt and check the closing totals. Include a network interruption only if offline operation is a requirement, and ask what the chosen edition does during one.

A guided walkthrough can verify the flow. It does not replace checking the exact hardware and service terms in your quotation.

Hardware without the guesswork

Buy for a job, then confirm the connection.

Keep the “must have” list short. Exact compatibility depends on the device model and software edition.

EquipmentWhat it helps withWhat to verify
Computer or touch screenRuns the checkout workflowOperating system, ports, network and supported model
Barcode scannerFinds products quicklyBarcode format, connection type and exact model
Receipt printer & cash drawerPrints receipts and supports cash handlingPrinter model, paper width, drawer trigger and tax receipt layout

This is a planning guide, not a compatibility list. Oasis POS features, integrations, supported devices and service scope should be confirmed for your specific requirements.
